Happy day because the weather has been nothing short of GORGEOUS! The sun seems to cut through the opposing coldness, and quickly warms this town like you wouldn't believe. I have been running the past two days in shorts, a short-sleeve shirt, and a light running jacket. I can believe it when people here say that Wellington comes alive in the summer. I seriously think that sometimes I have been smiling when I run. It just reminds me of home, and I am a sucker for sunshiny days!
Last night was not too gorgeous, and I quickly found out, 1 snapped umbrella later, why I have been the only one to carry around an umbrella in the 3 weeks I have been here. (I'm thinking, "Hello?! You WANT to get wet?") I got out of class to find it pouring down rain and wind so loud you could hear the howl from inside. I kept looking out the window through the darkness to see if there was some kind of tornado or hurricane or something making its way through. Seeing nothing, I knew I had to hurry and make it back before dinner was put away. Within ten seconds or so of being outside, my umbrella turns inside out. Super. I know I looked like a total goodball trying to put it back the next two times this happened as well. After the third time of fighting and successfully returning it to its original position, a huge gust of wind comes and snaps it inside out. I use the word 'snaps', becuase it not only turned it inside out, but snapped some very important metal things. Yeah, so my wonderful pink and red umbrella is dead. Well, at least until I can find some duct tape.
Coming to dinner looking like a wet rat, I struck up a conversation with some Kiwis about umbrellas. Apparently THIS is why they aren't used. And why they really aren't sold anywhere in Wellington. Good to know.
Sidenote: When you are talking about a kiwifruit, make sure you use the word 'fruit' in conjunction with the word 'kiwi'. This is so it will not be confused with the word 'Kiwi" meaning a person from Australia, or a 'kiwibird'. Kiwifruit, Kiwibird, Kiwi. (Ever write a word so much it looks like it is spelt wrong? I'm approaching that stage with the word 'kiwi'.)
Apparently my obsession with running has totally caught up to me. I have felt a nice and painful heel bruise coming on for about 10 days or so now, so I took 5 days off thinking that it would heal (it usually does). I blamed it on the extreme hill workouts (pictures are for sure coming later - this one hill y'all have GOT to see). I ran to 'my spot' yesterday and today (about an hour's run away), and discovered today after showering that I have a nice-sized bump on my right heel that is hard and incredibly tender. Curious as to what is plaguing my foot, I sent some pictures to Dr. Dad, and was told I had a 'pump bump', usually common with the wearing of pump/high heeled shoes. Well, considering I didn't bring any, I was told it is definitely from all of the uphill running. To make matters worse, it isn't just called a 'pump bump'. The medical term for this is Haglund's Deformity. Yes, deformity. It is not that serious, and running will resume as soon as Quasimoto's Hump get's the heck off my heel. (see picture - I just figured out I can upload pictures on here, so there will be many more!!)I will most likely be the only Kiwi wearing flip-flops since I can no longer get a shoe on my foot.

Anyways, I love you all. I can feel the 'homesickness' trying to come in, so I am just trying to stay busy. Pray for that please. I love love love it here, but there really is no place like home...with family, friends, 'peach house' workout nights, Bailey's chicken pino grigio, Luna Bars, ice cream, puppy dogs, kiddos, etc. Oh, and I am taking a weekend trip this weekend. Get excited for a really neat blogpost Sunday night!
